Why is there speed sign at Nürburgring Breidscheid ?

Are there speed limits at the Nürburgring?

From March 2023, speed limit signs will be installed in the so-called “Breidscheid” area on the Nürburgring circuit.
The limit starts at the entrance to the zone at 90 km/h, then 70 km/h and finally 50 km/h at the entrance to the bend, as close as possible to the entrance to the emergency services.
This speed limit does not apply during car races. It only applies during Tourists Drive sessions, when the Nürburgring becomes a public road again.

Why a speed limit at the Nürburgring?

The Breidscheid area is recognized as very dangerous because the speed can be high, the visibility is poor (blind turn) and just after the bend is the entrance to the emergency services.

This area was previously an official second entry into the Nürburgring but it was closed and reserved for emergency services as it posed a great risk. Indeed, the vehicles exiting the Breidscheid bend at high speed found themselves on the track with the vehicles entering the track and having not yet reached an equivalent speed. It has happened on several occasions that accidents have occurred in this area due to vehicles that are too fast in cohabitation with vehicles that are too slow.

Despite the fact of allowing more vehicle entries through Breidscheid, there have still been accidents with drivers colliding with the emergency services or the security services of the Nürburgring.

In order to increase the level of safety and reduce the risks in this area, a speed limit was introduced in March 2023.

Are there speed limit checks at the Nürburgring?

No, you will not be checked in this area. However, you are required to respect the limitation with common sense and intelligence.

End of speed limit

From the end of the risk zone, at the entrance to Ex-Muhle, you will find a sign indicating the end of the speed limit, the white sign with black lines indicating the absence of a speed limit.
